What is a Powerflush?

Powerflushing is a high-speed cleaning process where we use a specialist powerflushing machine and powerflushing unit to flush out all the sludge, rust, and other deposits from your pipes, radiators, heat exchanger, and boiler. It involves using high velocity water combined with a chemical cleaning solution to remove contaminants like iron oxide without damaging your pipework.

How does a powerflush work?

To meet the Government’s target of been Net Zero Carbon from 2050, manufactures are having to look at alternative ways to help heat our homes and provide hot water.

Our engineer will connect a pump to your central heating system. If it’s a combi it will be connected at the pump head but if it’s a system boiler it will be connected at the circulation pump. This pump will push special chemicals through the pipes, boiler and radiators.

This includes a chemical that will remove sludge and rust, a descaler to remove limescale and corrosion inhibitor to help prevent future rust from forming. The engineer will collect and dispose of any contaminated water, debris or particles that they remove from the system.

The whole process can last anything from 4 – 8 hours depending on the number of radiators in your home, the age of the system and the severity of the sludge in the system.

Powerflush costs

There are lots of factors that will affect the price of a powerflush such as size and complexity of the heating system, not to mention any incidental troubleshooting that crops up. A powerflush can cost anything between £350 + VAT to £1000 + VAT but will also vary from system to system. Sometimes there will be additional costs like extra descaler chemicals or replacing the TRVs but you will be kept updated and advised at time.

It’s important that your central heating system is as efficient as it can be at all times and, although a powerflush can be an expensive process, it can also save a lot of money over time in reduced heating bills.

Really professional and well versed in their trade. Cleaned up every night and explained what they were doing and why. Very tidy system. All rubbish and redundant equipment removed. Excellent communication from Debbie which meant I was able to be at home in time for Stephen's arrival - no waiting around for someone to come. Stephen was really helpful, explained the problem and returned the following day with all of the parts needed to not only fix the boiler but also my kitchen tap and leaking stopcock. Needed a new boiler and from Debbie who booked an inital visit and further booking to install the new boiler to Stephen who did the inital visit and quote to Matthew and the team who completed my full install of the new boiler they have been fantastic.
